Embracing Joy Through Relaxation: A People-Pleaser’s Guide

In a world that often demands constant productivity and endless multitasking, finding moments of relaxation and joy can be challenging, especially for those of us who identify as people-pleasers.

As a woman navigating the complexities of life while striving to make everyone around you happy, it’s absolutely crucial to carve out time for yourself.

Today we’ll explore how you, as a people-pleaser, can discover more joy by incorporating simple relaxation techniques into your daily routine. By prioritizing self-care and embracing relaxation, you can create powerful patterns that positively impact your well-being and your future, for you, your family and your friends.


1. The Art of Mindful Breathing

As a people-pleaser, your mind is likely constantly racing, thinking about what you have to do, when you have to do it, and how you’re going to fit in the next task.

One way to find more joy is through mindful breathing. Take a few moments each day to engage in long, slow & deep conscious breaths.

You can find a comfortable spot where you won’t be disturbed, or you can do it at your desk or even on the toilet! Just close your eyes and focus intentionally on your breath. Letting the muscles loosen from the top of your head, all the way down to the tips of your toes. Each time you breathe in, bring calm to the area of your body that needs it the most. Each time you breathe out, allow expectations (yours and those of others) to be released.

Listen to the sounds. Feel the breath move through your body. Do this for a even just a few minutes and you will reap the rewards.


2. Nurture Your Senses with Aromatherapy

People-pleasers often focus on others’ sensory experiences, but it’s time to pamper yourself through aromatherapy. Select calming essential oils like lavender, chamomile, or citrus scents that resonate with you. Use a diffuser or mix a few drops of oil in a carrier oil for a relaxing massage.

If you don’t have essential oils, you can simply pick up an orange and rub the oils out of the skin, or perhaps you can make a cup of tea with your favourite herbs and indulge in the olfactory experience as you sip into serenity.

Make this part of your daily routine and your life will change!


Unplug with Digital Detox Moments

People-pleasers often find themselves glued to digital devices, catering to others’ demands and organizing other people’s stuff, via text, messenger, group chat or email. The list is never ending, whether you are an entrepreneur, a corporate slave or a busy mama.

You can break the cycle by embracing a daily digital detox routine. Designate specific times in your day to disconnect from screens and connect with the present moment. Use this time to read, meditate, play, laugh or enjoy a leisurely walk in nature.

Disconnect to connect and build it into your daily routine.
